Professor Hao Wei of the Second Xiangya Hospital Elected the First Vice President of UNINCB

Professor Hao Wei, Prestigious Doctor from Mental Health Institute of the Second Xiangya Hospital was elected the First Vice President at the 119th session of United Nations International Narcotics Control Bureau convened in Vienna on May 16.



The United Nations International Narcotics Control Board (NCB for short), established according to the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs in 1968, is an independent and half-judicial international narcotics regulatory authority. It aims to promote the fulfillment of conventions on drugs by the United Nations, urge all countries to abide by relevant terms of the conventions and offer assistance for State Parties in this respect. Professor Hao Wei, as one of the candidates recommended by World Health Organization, was elected committee member of NCB in 2015 with a five-year tenure. In 2016, he was successfully elected as Vice President of the Standing Committee on Estimates of NCB and the First Vice President, and in 2017 the First Vice President of NCB.


Professor Hao Wei is an authoritative expert in China’s psychiatry and abuse fields and now acts as President of Chinese Association of Drug Abuse Prevention, member of the WHO Alcohol and Drug Abuse Panel, Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Addiction Behavior and Health, member of the Working Group of the International Classification of Mental Disorders, a former President of the Psychiatrist Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association. The 4th to 7th editions of Psychiatry edited chiefly by Professor Hao are considerably influential in the field of psychiatry. The research team on addition behavior led by Professor Hao has received keen attention. Over the past five years, Professor Hao has undertaken 12 international projects and 6 state ones. In total, he has published 300 odd papers as the first author or the corresponding author, 60 of which have been cited by SCI and works compiled or edited by him have amounted to 25. With all this, Professor Hao has exerted a significant impact both at home and abroad in fields of epidemiological studies, abstinence herbs, rehabilitation after detoxification studies, biological mechanism of addition and the like.
